Fight against the AIDS in the Arab world
One does not dare the statement yet, but it is well of sex education that it acts

a great number of old young people between 15 and 19 years have an active sexual life. They require that it is explained to them how to have a responsible behavior and to secure against certain infections sexually transmissible in particular the VIH/SIDA or how to assume a not desired pregnancy.

Very often, the parents test a certain embarrassment to tackle such questions which are nevertheless of major importance for this population being likely to be exposed to certain incurable diseases fault of information or by negligence. Thus, the teenagers prefer in speaking with other young people about the same age bracket but who are informed and even informed. With this intention, Y-Peer, or the even teachers, undertake this task. They will provide them correct information on the sexual health, which they can themselves transmit to their friends. Recently introduced into the Arab world, this concept or this working method is positioning in the landscape thanks to the various speakers in the field, of which Funds of the Nations for Population (UNFPA).

Moreover a detailed attention is given to the communication. For proof, the seminar which proceeded of July 1 to the Sultanate of Oman consequently related to the strategy of communication for the change of the behavior of the young people through the culture, the media and the fight against the VIH/SIDA. Representatives of the offices of the UNFPA, media, celebrities (singers, actors) and of Y-Peer of 14 country animated during four days the debate around the question. Common goal: to identify the means of intervention to prevent the young people against the VIH/SIDA. From where this invisible ogre who is likely to infect the various age brackets through several ways, in particular the not protected sexual relations and injectable drugs…

To draw the attention of young people against the infections sexually transmissible, the VIH/SIDA is from now on a shared responsibility. Media, celebrities, institutions governmental and nongovernmental… must start to it to act in concert and to protect the younger generation against this virus. For lack of information, the latter often do not think of being protected when they have sexual relations. Idem for those which use injectable drugs and which neglect a paramount factor for their health. Thus running the risk to be infected by the HIV or other heavy diseases like hepatitises. These young people have in the same way difficulties in obtain relevant information on the question. They hesitate and do not even dare to ask them near their parents or their groins. Persistence of taboos, therefore. Whereas they active and are sexually confronted with the major dangers. For better sensitizing them, Y-Peer in other words the teacher-pars were implied in this process. The young competences framed according to international standards' in the communication and sensitizing are working on the subject. A whole international network is constituting itself on the fabric and is used as support of sensitizing in order to diffuse their messages with the young people concerned. They are based on five elements; abstinence, prudence, the use of the condom where necessary, the non-utilization of drug and education. In addition to the Net, Y-Peer proceed directly by training trainers in the field of sexual health. They control several techniques of communication of which the theatre, animation, the vidéos conferences, the plea… Of the means of communication of major importance. It is besides about the key of success of their work.

Implication of the celebrities

In addition, the celebrities (singers, actors, sportsmen…) are directly implied in this step, and this thanks to their position and their contact with the various receivers without forgetting their direct impact. However it is essential to choose well the people completely indicated and able to transmit the message suitably. The participants agreed on another factor, the choice of the celebrity who must make serve as good example and which expresses a durable engagement and an interest compared to the subject. For better transmitting the message to the young people, the celebrity is supposed to control the key concepts as it must be active at the regional local level and even broader, international. Within this framework, Khaled Aboulnaja, Egyptian actor, insisted on the importance to mobilize of Y-Peer ambassadors and knowing how to convince the celebrities to adopt and sponsor this human cause. “It is also important to intensify the engagement of the celebrities who are already active”, according to the actor who judged that it is necessary to tackle the subject in films. Because, “the capacity of the novel is very powerful”, always in his opinion.

In this same context, the media have a paramount role in the diffusion of information on the VIH/SIDA and STI. To speak about sexual health and to sensitize the young people against its revêt risks a major importance. It is in fact one of the supports or the means to which Y-Peer have recourse to transmit their messages and to achieve their goals. However, the two partners do not manage to establish a true partnership. It is besides about the same obstacle which is posed with the celebrities who are not available very often because of their professional engagement. “As they can not reflect the required example. We thus decided to change the strategy of work by diversifying the panoply of the people implied in this step”, according to Dr. Aleksandar Bodiroza. The strategy aims at encouraging the young people to protect itself from the MST.
